The Planning and Preparing for College blog - it is great.

Have you discovered the Planning and Preparing for College blog?
It has LOTS of great scholarship information.
Here is the link: http://www.ctherd.blogspot.com/

I have had the link to this site here on the side of my blog for awhile, and recently I went to check it out again. It had even more great resources than I remembered!

The Planning and Preparing for College blog has lots of information about different types of scholarships, internships, links to different financial aid websites, practice test links, college preparatory updates, community service website links, FAFSA info., and more.

This site is for all ages. Be sure to check each scholarship for age requirements though, because some are for younger students. It's a great site to have in your arsenal as you look for scholarships and more.

Take some time, and go through some of these scholarships, or search for your state or interest. I think you are going to like it.

Nontraditionally Yours,

Some great free links from the Scholarship Pages at the Nontrad site

Some good Scholarship sites...
For those of you who do not read the Nontrad site, I am going to list several of the best free scholarship sites I have there.
#1. The Fatomei pages - the Dr. Torres Database: this site has lots of information, all searchable. It also contains  research grants, minority scholarships, postdoctoral awards, study abroad information and lots more. Here is that link: The Fatomei Pages/Dr. Torres Database pages.

#2.  The FastAid site lets you search for free on their big database.

#3.  The Fresch site is also a great free resource.  You can also check out their free resource pages too.

#4.  The famous Career One Stop pages (used for employment searches) has a little-known Scholarship page too, where they have more than 5,000 scholarships listed.

#5. No list would be complete without the Fastweb pages. They not only have a free scholarship search database, but they have articles too.

You can check out all the links on the Nontrad Scholarships page one and page two.

I also have written about scholarships at Squidoo with Scholarships Online for Students. There is a good video there about filling out the FAFSA too, made by Fastweb Insider Secrets on YouTube. Just scroll down to see it on the website, or go to the link.

Good scholarship hunting! Until next posting,

Special scholarships you may qualify for

NYC: Brooklyn Public Library - Central LibraryImage by wallyg via Flickr
Three good scholarship sites and pages.

I decided to research .org sites today. I often find great links there, because .org sites are much more likely to be concerned with good information, and really do try to help people more than most .com and .net sites.
Here are some pages from sites I found today.

#1. The Secret to Winning a National Federation of the Blind Scholarship. I liked the title of this. And it comes from the National Federation of the Blind website. I read it, of course, to find out the secret. It turned out to be "apply" and "read the directions" mostly. But you must also attend an official convention too. The article lays out all the steps necessary and tells you where to get an application too.

#2. Scholarships for Skilled Golfers - the College Scholarships.org site explains what you need to do to win a golfing scholarship. They list the best schools AND the first step in applying, which is to register with the NCAA's Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse. They also suggest getting videos of your playing to show to recruiters or colleges.

#3.  The Brooklyn Public Library Links List - Eureka! This list is full of great finds. One is the Black Excel site - 25 scholarship links, another is the Sallie Mae free scholarship search page. This link list has so much on it that looks very interesting.

Let me know if you get a scholarship from these. I hope you do!

Scholarships and debt - plus some hope for debt problems

An example of street markets accepting credit ...Image via Wikipedia
Scholarships... and debt.

Do you have high levels of debt? Scholarships can help, but sometimes to go back to school you need to take out a loan.

Of course, if you have been reading this blog, you know to first go here: The Nontrad Scholarship pages, to find free scholarship links. AND you know that going to the official (free) FAFSA site is your first step to find scholarships and grants available to you.

But maybe you also would like to hear a story about how a couple got rid of their debt burden. You can do it too. You do not have to hire anyone (there are lots of free services out there) but you do need a plan.

Before or after you are in school, if you take care not to charge a lot to credit cards, this can help. Having a part-time job can also help. Buying a house that is affordable goes a long way towards debt peace of mind as well.

Calling credit card companies in person and arranging a payment plan for you OR paying the whole thing at once (through negotiation with the company) can be great options too.

Here is an uplifting story from the Yahoo pages about a couple that took care of their debt problem after 30 years. Carole and Don Carroll: Debt-Free After 30 Years

Hopefully you won't have a lot of debt after you get out of school. But if you do, don't lose heart. You CAN get rid of debt. A little at a time, that debt total can go down until you are completely out of that trap.

I hope this posting was helpful. Do you have a tip about getting out of debt, finding money in school, and/or saving money? List it as a comment here. Thanks!

Two more very interesting scholarship site pages

Czech nursing students.Image via Wikipedia
More Scholarship website pages

Here are some great scholarship websites I just found.

Are you from Florida? Want to go to school and be a nurse? Here is a website called The Great 100 Nurses of Northeast Florida. Their mission is to help healthcare students who are seeking certifications and other formal nursing education at all levels.

Here is that link: 100 Great Nurses. They even have a newsletter!

And here is another neat one - The Native American Times online explains why it always isn't the best idea to concentrate on Native American scholarships if you are Native American or just think you might be. Why? Because you might be missing out on a whole bunch of OTHER scholarships!

Here is that great article: Chavers: How can I get an Indian scholarship?

How is your scholarship search going? Make sure to send your sites you have found by commenting here. Or just share your ideas. Thanks!
