Get ready for 2015... January 1st, and your official FAFSA application.

Via the Planning and Preparing for College Blog:

"January 1, is the start date for applying for the FAFSA for the 2013-2014 college school year."

C. Herd has great information here on this blog. I have shared many postings from the site.

She reminds people that they must have an official PIN number, and shares the official links for that, plus the official website and the EFC (Expected Family Contribution) Calculator.

Thanks, C. Herd! This is VERY useful information, and it's great timing too.

So, let's get ready for school, and see what interesting information and possible grants and scholarships are available for YOU.

Good luck, students.

A "new" to me Scholarship Search site - - via Chegg, called Zinch.

This site looks promising.
It does what some other sites do, take your information, then send you promising leads. It is Zinch.com.

I think it's worth a try. I don't have it listed on my #scholarship pages yet, but hopefully I will this year or next.

I'd say, give it a try. It looks very professional. And if you like it, comment about it.

Have you applied for a #scholarship yet? What might be stopping you from applying... roadblocks.

Roadblocks for Scholarship Seekers

If you are like me, dreaming about a scholarship is about the closest you will get to getting one this year. Why is that?

I think I can come up with several reasons for myself. I wonder if these are reasons others have too.

#1. If I spend the time on applying for a scholarship, it probably won't be me that is chosen. Reasons? Age, I won't be the best fit, I will answer a question wrong, or who knows.

#2. I am not sure I want to go back to school again anyhow.

#3. If I get a scholarship, I'm not sure how long it will continue.

#4. It will take such a long time to fill out the form(s), I don't know if it will even be worth it.

#5. I can't decide what KIND of scholarship I want.

Sound familiar?  I write these partly because sometimes I actually think I should apply, even though I have made roadblocks for myself. Will I do it?

Well, Maybe. (See #5...)

Search for scholarships, using Twitter. You might be surprised at the results!

This week on Twitter - some new #scholarship links.

It's easy to find new scholarship listings on Twitter. Some are actually Scholarship companies that tweet about these, but others are students, and also schools.

So... like looking other places online, check who is posting, check for worthy posters, and do your homework on the kind of scholarships these are.

And I hope some of these are perfect for you!

Exploring Music Scholarships online

Here are some great links and pages from quality sites for Music Scholarships.

Here is the famous Interlochan Scholarship:

Music Scholarships at Scholarships.com - there are many to choose from here and lots to browse too.

Berklee College of Music Scholarships - I don't know a lot about this school, but they have some funding you can access.

McNally Smith College of Music scholarship page - ditto.

The University of Utah College of Music scholarship page. They also have scholarships for Marching Band, I notice. This is a fun activity if you have not already tried it. I was in a Marching Band in college and met great friends there.

ASCAP Foundation Awards

Missouri Undergraduate programs

Do Google your area plus "Music Scholarships" and see what you get.

And here are some more sites, tried and true:

Interlochen Summer Programs: Scholarships and Financial Aid
(for High School students, I believe..)

From the website: "Interlochen's financial aid program is intended to help provide outstanding young artists some assistance to further their artistic development. Interlochen is able to provide financial aid to approximately 25% of its campers. No family should be discouraged from applying to Interlochen Arts Camp because of lack of funds. We welcome a broad cross section of families who believe in their children and in their ability to succeed."

And here is more: Interlochen Arts Academy

Boston University - financial aid for Graduate Students

And be sure to register at Fastweb. They can hook you up with scholarships and even send you notices about them. Here is their Music Page: http://colleges.fastweb.com/m-music.

Don't forget to fill our your FAFSA form too. They may have scholarships and grants you have not seen yet.
