Summer Search Tips for College Scholarship and Grant Seekers

Summer Scholarship Searching - 7 Tips for Scholarship Seekers
++++++++++++++++++++++++
Depending on what you have going on, a job, Summer Session classes, or other responsibilities, summertime might just be the PERFECT time to start a new Scholarship search.

Here are some tips for the first-time scholarship searcher and also for the semi-pro.

#1. Be organized - keep a file drawer and keep track of deadlines. Scholarship donors are very strict about their deadlines, and there can be no do-overs on this until next year.

#2. Make sure you sign up for and apply for more than just a few scholarships or grants. The more you apply for, the better the chance you will win one or even more.

#3. Use quality (and free!) Search Websites to help you find scholarships that you are wanting. Some of these include the popular Scholarships.com site, along with Fresch, FinAid, FastAid, and others.
More quality sites are listed here:

#4. Make sure you use the Federal Student Aid Pages to fill out your OFFICIAL FAFSA form. Don't pay to apply, your FAFSA is free. And keep your PIN number in a safe place.

#5. Carve out a certain amount of time per week to work on your Scholarship search. Stick to it. You'll be surprised how many applications you will eventually get done that way.

#6. Check ALL your inboxes, including your Spam and Trash folders to make sure you are receiving all your email from online Scholarship sites.

#7. Don't give up! You will never win a scholarship unless you try, try, try.

++++++++++++++++++++++++

That's it for today! Good luck in your scholarship and grant searches this week.

These are just a few of the many GREAT scholarship sites out there.

But if you are looking for a scholarship right now, they can be a great starting point. Here are five good sites to go to to get some scholarship links and ideas.

#1. The Scholarships.com site - - they are FREE (important). Check out their links, and find MANY scholarships here.

#2. Of course, the FastWeb site! Register here and find MANY good scholarships, tailored to you.

#3. FAFSA - if you fill this out (and ONLY at the OFFICIAL site) you can find out what you are qualified to receive in your state and at your chosen school too.

#4. The FinAid site: "The Smart Student Guide to Financial Aid". There are great links and articles here. This is another FREE site. They link to the FastWeb site too.

#5. The Fresch Scholarship pages - there are a lot of links here too, and a database to search too.

There are some other good, quality, FREE sites listed also on the Nontraditional student website Scholarships Links and Tips Page One and Scholarships Links and Tips Page Two.

Five Super-Terrific Scholarship Sites

What makes a Scholarship site super-terrific? Well, one things that does it is being free to use. Another plus that helps is having a LOT of information on the site. And another is quality. Quality sites, quality navigation, and quality scholarships to win.

Here are five really great scholarship sites you can use right now. Some require registration, but that is to match scholarships up to you most precisely.

#1. The official FAFSA site - I always come back to this site, because it's so important to fill this out and go to the FREE official site to do so. This site is not just a loan site. It contains MANY state-specific and other scholarships that will be offered to you if you qualify and fill out the form.

#2. The FinAid site: The FinAid site is a public service site that tells you what kinds of scholarships there are, what kinds of loans there are available, and lots more. Have a question? They have many pages to read about it. It also explains how to use the next site, Fastweb. This site also explains how to NOT get scammed.

#3. Fastweb: register here, and the huge database of FastWeb searches scholarships for you. This site is absolutely free. They also have many explanation pages and match awards to your profile.

#4.The Fatomei site, or the Dr Torres site. This is a much lesser known site, but has a LOT of links and information about not just scholarships, but also grants and graduate school money. When I first discovered this site, I was so excited to see so many links listed. Just click on the area of interest, scroll down, and you will see what I mean.

#5. BrokeScholar.com - this site has such a funny name, but isn't it true? Students who are in school usually ARE broke, and need money. This is another great and free site that matches scholarships to the scholars that need them. Their description says that they have MILLIONS of scholarships, grants, and fellowships in their database.

I hope these are helpful. Good luck with your scholarship search!
