Where to look for free college money - online and offline

Places to check for Scholarships

Are you going to school right now? Be sure to see your advisor and check on scholarships you may qualify for right where you are. There may be little-known financial help there. Make sure to make an appointment and talk about that at least one time this semester.

Your FAFSA application and scholarships - when you applied for loans, you were automatically sent some scholarship opportunities if you qualified for them.

Checking the usual websites - are you registered for more than one "Search Site" online. They do the work FOR you, sending you email when a scholarship fits your skills, wants or needs, or area. Some popular sites for this (and free) are Fastweb, the Fatomei site, Scholarships.com. A recent posting at USA Today suggests a new site called Zinch.com that looks worth a look too. Their 3-sentence Essay contest that they do each week sounds interesting!

Good luck in your scholarship searching! List your favorites too, as a comment.

Have a great week.

Find Scholarships and Blogs 2014 - the best links for #FREE #scholarships and #grants

Scholarships and Grants for 2014 - my favorite listings and sites

Yes, you will find some new #scholarships and #grants for GED's, College, Universities, and Technical Schools, plus graduate student grants and fellowships this year. I will be sharing them as I find them. There are also some tried and true sites and helpful links that I love to share regularly on this blog.

Regular readers will recognize these. Are you actively looking on these sites? It's good if you are.

Here they are:

The OFFICIAL FAFSA site (check here first if you are wanting to go to college or grad school)

The Fatomei/Dr. Torres site (especially helpful for unusual and/or other resources such as graduate school scholarships, internships, and more, plus scholarships and grants) - their description of the site: "Highly competitive and prestigious undergraduate college scholarships, graduate fellowships, education grants, summer jobs & research internships, awards for high school seniors & students, women, minorities, Hispanics, African Americans, nurses, engineers, teachers studying math, science & engineering and health professions from national & international foundations. Free financial aid, student loans, prizes, stipends."

The Fastweb site: sign up here and get your personalized emails about the #scholarships YOU want to find out about.

Add a few more free #scholarship and #grant websites from the Nontraditional Student site
(Page one ( How to apply and more...)  and Page two (More about the FAFSA and more...) and you are ready to go.

And it doesn't hurt to go to your local Employment office and ask about what might be available for you in terms of work training. You never know!

Just saying.

Here is a bit about me: I am a former Nontraditional Student and Grant "Winner" who never did apply for #scholarships (YET), but who decided to share and research them just in case she wanted to later.

I love to blog, so added this to my other pages. I hope they are helpful.

Post here if you have some other sites YOU like too.

Scholarship postings on Google+ - lots of my links, plus some others.

I found a LOT of Google+ postings from this blog on Google+ when I searched for them today.

There are a few others there too. FYI: one of my favorite bloggers and Scholarship website makers, Francisco A Tomei Torres, posts:"Search Results / Nationally Coveted College Scholarship & Graduate Fellowships" at Fatomei.com - this is his main site.

My alma mater, WKU, posts: WKU offering Bonner scholarships - students are doing community service with groups such as the ALIVE Center locally.

From the website:
"Bonner Leadership Scholars complete 10 hours of community service, professional development and personal enrichment activities each week in exchange for their tuition scholarship.
Being able to offer a Bonner scholarship for service work is something new for WKU, but it is common to many campuses."

Then, Google talks about the Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship. "Congratulations to the 84 recipients and finalists of the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship and Google Scholarship for Students with Disabilities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa—two scholarships aimed at encouraging underrepresented students to enter the computing field.

Find a list of all scholars: http://g.co/8jr2"

Sara Hill shares about more Google scholarships in North America, and says:
"Google Scholarships in North America - Now accepting applications! | Google Student Blog
The Knight Foundation posted about winners of the "FreeToTweet" Scholarship competition from the 1 For All Organization. "Writer Alex Knapp shares his favorite winning tweet: “I write out of passion. They sing for joy. He worships in love. She gathers in support. We petition in hope. We are #freetotweet.”" http://www.forbes.com/sites/alexknapp/2012/03/22/winners-announced-for-free-to-tweet-scholarships/.

So, going to Google+ IS worth it to find out more interesting #scholarships and #scholarship news.

Later!

Have a VACATION from doing scholarship searches...

I say, take a break right now.

It's the holiday season, after all. But keep organized anyhow.

Unless you have some Scholarship deadlines, that is.

Just an FYI, if you are serious about attending school, online or in person, it can be a great idea to look around for scholarships or grants.

I have some good links here, and also a video of how to fill out your FAFSA form.

Have a GREAT Thanksgiving holiday. Some things to read in your spare time...

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, scholarship and grant seekers.

While you are resting from all the Thanksgiving food this holiday perhaps, or are getting ready for another holiday, here are some links to look over, and some interesting sites too.

Federal Student Aid: Grants and Scholarships: I notice a couple of new ones here, TEACH grants and also Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants.

Scholarships.com talks about alternative holiday suggestions - - for people NOT going home for Thanksgiving. (Watch out for the ad that pops up here, just scroll up and "x" it out.)

They also have an article here about Making Thanksgiving Dinner in Your Dorm. Interesting.

I hope you have a good and productive week.

I hope you do have a great holiday season, too. Did you win a #scholarship or #grant this year? Please share it with all the readers by leaving a comment.

Get a Scholarship for college using a FREE scholarship search page - - plus other tips.

I have recommended FastWeb before. Also, there are other quality search sites.

Some send results to you after you fill out a form there on the site.

Others just have great links you can use. On this blog site, you can put a search term in and search all the past postings for different kinds of scholarships.

On the Fatomei site, you can scroll down and find internships, grants for research, and lots more, all there on the site. These links are not your run-of-the-mill ones either. He has collected LOTS and LOTS of great research here.

And on the Nontrads pages, I have two Scholarship Pages to look through, with some great links.
( Scholarships Links Page One and Scholarships Links Page Two).

Of course (as I say on Scholarships Links Page Two)  it pays to always check the official FAFSA page first. You never know what great scholarships, grants, or other opportunities are available nationwide or in your area. The FAFSA helps you locate these, along with your college advising office.

Do NOT pay to apply for scholarships, or to join a Scholarship Page if you can help it. There are plenty of free ones out there to help you.

Clear as mud? Good luck on YOUR scholarship application.
