New - From the U.S. Dept. of State Department Blog - Scholarships for High School Students

Here is a new posting I just got today.

It is 2014 Scholarships for American High School Students to Study Abroad.

Interested? Or know somebody who is? Here is that information, from the U.S. Department of State.

"2014 Scholarships for American High School Students to Study Abroad

Media Note

<...>

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs sponsors many programs that are now accepting applications for scholarships that provide American high school students the opportunity to study abroad. These exchange programs prepare American young people to live, work, and succeed in a global economy, as well as connect with other future leaders around the world.

Opportunities include:

The Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad Program offers scholarships to American high school students to spend an academic year living with host families and attending school in countries that may include Bosnia & Herzegovina, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mali (semester), Morocco, Oman, South Africa, Thailand, Tunisia, and Turkey. This post-9/11 program focuses on increasing understanding between people in the United States and countries with significant Muslim populations. Visit www.yes-abroad.org to apply. The application deadline is January 9, 2014.

The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program (CBYX) was established in 1983 to celebrate German-American friendship based on common values of democracy. Secondary school students, ages 15–18, live with host families, attend local schools, and participate in community life in Germany. Young professionals (undergraduates) and high school graduates of vocational studies, ages 18–24, study and participate in practical training. For more information and application deadlines, visit the organization in charge of recruitment for your state at http://www.usagermanyscholarship.org/"

Why doing your official FAFSA may bring you a scholarship or grant (with new video)

Here is the OFFICIAL FAFSA page: http://www.fafsa.com/.

The FAFSA website has another page there that explains why you can be considered for scholarships and grants after you fill it out: http://www.fafsa.com/student-financial-aid/college-scholarships-grants.

And here is a useful video to help you fill it out.

The video above talks about "you and your parents" but you can also fill this out by yourself, of course.

It covers renewal options, what you will need with you when you fill it out, and talks in a simple, step-by-step way, and warns you that all the application is free.

This form automatically updates for the next year for the next school year.  This video is just the beginning Others follow. Just click on the link under the title that says "2013-2014 7i Easy Steps to the FAFSA - Start Here" and the other 19 videos will be shown to you in a list.

Scroll down for Step 1, and then Steps 2-7.

I hope you find these valuable.

There is another copy of this video about how to fill out your FAFSA form on my Scholarships page Two here.

My favorite Scholarship links, plus tips, and more. Hi to new readers!

Here are a few of my favorite Scholarship postings:

The Top 5 Scholarship Links and Leads

Don't get Ripped Off Trying to get a Scholarship

My Five Most Popular Postings

And here are some more tips to get your started on your scholarship search.

#1. Register on one or more scholarship sites, like FastWeb or FastAid.

#2. Do your FAFSA form to find out what loans, grants, or scholarships you may qualify for.

#3. Keep an organized list of the places you have applied for grants and scholarships.

#4. Search this site using the box at the left side to find out more links to use.

#5. Go to the About.com sites (below) AND the Dr. Torres' pages and explore.

Here are some interesting About.com sites that have scholarship links:
College Apps, Business Majors, U.S. Military, Psychology, College, Gradschool, and Adulted/Continuing Education/Lifelong Learners. Search for more right at the main page.

Tip: most good Scholarship and Grant pages should give FREE advice. Don't pay if you don't have to.  And don't be fooled by fake FAFSA pages or For Profit schools whose credits don't transfer. Do the extra work and research to be sure you are paying for "quality credits."

Hi to new readers and older ones. And good luck finding scholarships, grants and more!
