Older student? Sometimes this can help you go to school for less cost.

Age discounts can get you money too. At WKU, you can be 65 and save a lot.

WKU is located in Bowling Green, Kentucky. You still have to pay for some things though. No, it's not a scholarship, but you are getting a great deal like you would with a grant or scholarship.

And I'll bet that MAYBE a school near you might offer this too.

WKU explains more about that here at their FAQ page for their Adult Learning Services.

<Question:>"I have heard seniors get free tuition. Is this true?

In accordance with KRS 164.284, Kentucky residents who are 65 years of age or older are granted free tuition for any undergraduate or graduate college class in which they enroll for credit or to audit. Individuals must be 65 years of age or older on or before the first day of the semester in which they enroll. Senior students are still responsible for paying any course fees, such as lab fees, and for purchasing their textbooks. Like all students, seniors must apply for admission to the university, which can be done online, and pay the $40 application fee. For additional information contact Adult Learner Services at (270) 745-3575 or adultservices@wku.edu.

I almost wish I were 65 right now. I have some courses I'd like to take!

Well, maybe I'll have to check out scholarships after all...

A "new" to me Scholarship Search site - - via Chegg, called Zinch.

This site looks promising.
It does what some other sites do, take your information, then send you promising leads. It is Zinch.com.

I think it's worth a try. I don't have it listed on my #scholarship pages yet, but hopefully I will this year or next.

I'd say, give it a try. It looks very professional. And if you like it, comment about it.

Glorious Weather? Mowing, and Spring Break.

Spring is a wonderful season.
For many, including me, it's time to get out and exercise by doing things like mowing and gardening (which WILL feel better in the future, I keep telling myself!)

It may take longer to recoup after getting more active, but I think it's worth it.

For many students, it's all about getting outdoors more this time of year too. Some are going on a Spring Break trip away from school for awhile. Many are thinking about going back to school next year. And still others are thinking about taking a class or two during Summer School.

I think that there is something about Spring that brings hope to the soul. In the Spring, somehow all things seem possible.

I hope school is going well, students. Students and non-students, or student wannabes, who would like to pick my brain about scholarships, feel free to Check my Nontrads Scholarship pages:

Knuckle down... and never give up on looking for that great scholarship or grant.

A thought for today:

Don't give up just because there are many applicants for scholarships.

You may think that all scholarships are already taken, and that only the genius applicants will get the nod.

It is not true.

Things like service, clubs, groups, specialized knowledge, entrepreneurship, background, residency, special skills, and many more things are taken into account when scholarships or grants are awarded.

You need to give a scholarship or grant search the seriousness and organization you give other important things, like looking for a job or doing research.

Just saying.

Here are some postings to help you in your scholarship search:

Good luck on your search - - and I hope you find a GREAT scholarship or grant.

There is more to every Scholarship, internship, and grant search.

More and more sites are now social.
A social network - from Clker.com

There is the search first. You find some great sites. What do you do then?

After the crucial search step, you get the site, and maybe keep the link to come back later. That is important to do. You will be able to sign up for the site then, and check for news.

It's also vitally important to be socially connected to these sites to hear about new scholarships and more. If you are not yet connected (except for having their link), try to connect to a Facebook page or to a mailing list.

Also see if the sites have Twitter, LinkedIn, or direct email signups or Facebook pages.

Then check your email and social pages often.

You can get a solid filing system (on or off your computer) going AND a good system for checking your email and links too.

Decide how often you want to check. Make special automatic email folders, or copy information to files or folders on your desktop.

You can also print out hard copies and make a hard copy filing system. It's totally up to you.

Here are a few sites, postings, and ideas for doing just that.

#1. Get Organized - and keep track of your scholarship and grant applications

#2. Treat Looking for Scholarships like a Job

#3. Are you Signed up with Fastweb yet?

#4. Scholarship postings about scholarships and grants (you can run a search today too)

#5. FAFSA deadlines - do you know them?

Thanks for coming by to my blog today. And good luck on your scholarship search.

November is National Scholarship Month

A really good Fastweb Article
about National Scholarship Month

I was over at one of my favorite scholarship search sites, Fastweb, today, and I noticed a great article there with this title (National Scholarship Month...) written by Mark Kantrowitz. In this article, Kantrowitz gives an overview of what a scholarship is, and what kinds of scholarships are available.

The reason that November was chosen to be the National Scholarship month was because it is the beginning of the main scholarship time, Kantrowitz explains. He also says that many different kinds of scholarships are available today, even unusual ones such as "duck calling or knitting with wool." Unfortunately, I am not proficient at those skills, but maybe a reader out there is!

I found this article because I recently learned that the websites Fastweb (which has long been one of my favorites) and another site, FinAid.org, are connected. So now I totally recommend both sites. Not only are they free, but they feature many articles, such as this one, that I like. They also have sections for students, parents, and educators, as well asother information that college scholarship and grant seekers need, like how to volunteer, how to find internships and jobs, and tons of other information too.

You can read the rest of the article I just read here: November is National Scholarship Month. Thanks, Mr. Kantrowitz, for a great article. I like it because it is upbeat and inspirational, and not too long or boring either.
