How to find #scholarships in this blog, and elsewhere: 4 great scholarship link pages.

Hello!

Today I will share some popular BIG scholarship lists here.

#1 (really for me to see again)
My Big List of Art Scholarships

#2: Science Scholarship links

#3: Scholarship links for Science Fiction fans

#4: Music Scholarship Links

Well... YOU get the idea.

Just put "_____ Scholarship" in the Freefind Site Search box at the top left at the Find Scholarships and Grants blog, then you will see what I have found so far.

Also, some of the places that list certain "Subject Scholarships" often have many more at their site.

Don't be afraid to search yourself too.

If you find something GREAT, another link I should add, or actually land a #scholarship too, leave a comment so we can congratulate you too.

Thank you for visiting my blog today!

Scholarships - NEVER pay for them. Or for the search. Plus MANY tips for finding a scholarship or grant!

Everyone is jumping on the "Find Scholarships" bandwagon.

Especially online websites. They are looking for you. Why? Because they want to make money guiding people to scholarships. There is BIG money in doing that. But don't give in to the big fees they want to charge you.

And it sounds tempting to let somebody else do the work for you. BUT you can save big, just going the work yourself.

Here are some tips to get started:

#1. Get organized - - keep a good file system, and this can get you started right.

Get organized - and keep track of your scholarship and grant applications.

How to organize your scholarship search.

#2. Only search with quality websites that do NOT charge you.

AND these pages have good, quality scholarship sites on them too:

#3. Always go to the schools near you to see what scholarships, grants, fellowships, etc. they offer. Apply.

#4. Avail yourself of the free signups for scholarship search. Think: Fastweb and others.

Discoveries on the Fastweb site (2010)

#5. Don't give up. And keep an eye on deadlines. (AND fill out your FAFSA for more opportunities...)

Also FAFSA deadlines are here: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/deadlines.htm.

#6. Student beware! Only accept scholarships from quality colleges that allow transfers. You'd be surprised how many people have been fooled by for-profit schools and now have almost worthless classes to show for it.

Got some more good tips? Add them as a comment.

And, of course, the very best of GOOD LUCK finding an internship, scholarship, grant or more! :-)

Older student? Sometimes this can help you go to school for less cost.

Age discounts can get you money too. At WKU, you can be 65 and save a lot.

WKU is located in Bowling Green, Kentucky. You still have to pay for some things though. No, it's not a scholarship, but you are getting a great deal like you would with a grant or scholarship.

And I'll bet that MAYBE a school near you might offer this too.

WKU explains more about that here at their FAQ page for their Adult Learning Services.

<Question:>"I have heard seniors get free tuition. Is this true?

In accordance with KRS 164.284, Kentucky residents who are 65 years of age or older are granted free tuition for any undergraduate or graduate college class in which they enroll for credit or to audit. Individuals must be 65 years of age or older on or before the first day of the semester in which they enroll. Senior students are still responsible for paying any course fees, such as lab fees, and for purchasing their textbooks. Like all students, seniors must apply for admission to the university, which can be done online, and pay the $40 application fee. For additional information contact Adult Learner Services at (270) 745-3575 or adultservices@wku.edu.
For a video testimonial from a senior student click here."

I almost wish I were 65 right now. I have some courses I'd like to take!

Well, maybe I'll have to check out scholarships after all...

Today on Twitter - #scholarships, #grants, and websites, some WKU ones too.

I have skimmed Twitter today and have a few interesting links for my readers. (Plus... how you can search there too...)

I am not putting in weird or dodgy links, or ones you have to sign up for or pay for, just ones that look good. (Of course!) AND I have found some nearby (WKU) ones I especially like. And just stuck one in here from Wisconsin too.

Read on to see how you can search Twitter anytime to find tweets you are looking for. (At the word: IMPORTANT further down on this posting).

But you may already be searching here regularly. I think it's definitely worth going to every so often.

These are just the tip of the iceberg of sites and scholarship and grant opportunities on Twitter every day. More and more colleges and universities are starting to get savvy about social media, and that is VERY good if you are searching.

Another great site to find out about scholarships - About.com

I have signed up for a few different About.com newsletters. You can sign up for these at many of the pages.

Money for school: we like it!

About.com does not make you click incessantly to go to a new photo or anything; their links are on their articles.

Yes, they do have ads on their pages, but I don't mind it. AND each page has other links on it that may be of great interest to my readers.

Here are a few of their pages and articles you might like:

Some advice for Art Scholarships: older postings, PLUS the new Biggie List. For me and others. :-)

I love art. So I want to put this information out there again.

Here is some advice and thoughts about going for an Art Scholarship. Definitely check the Art Department first, at the school you want to attend.

For example, check out the pages that are on the official website. I will do that for the  Western Kentucky Art Department, just to see.

I first went to see what graduate courses they offer, and found many interesting ones - including Art Education (MAT = Master of Arts in Education - Art Education for Teacher Leaders) and also MA (Master of Arts, which does NOT have just plain Art in it.

This is good to know... of course, if you have been to college before, perhaps you did not complete a Major, so this could also be an option.

My next step was to search the site for just a Major, which is do-able for undergrads and also graduate students. Before doing that, you may want to check out Master's/Specialist programs for OTHER subjects you might also like.

Then find out what classes you might already have, and what scholarships or grants MIGHT be available for you. I searched on this site, and found various ideas. One is a Graduate Assistantship, and another is a Grant or Residency. I didn't see an Art Scholarship listed, so I searched just for that next. I found several different ones. Some are listed under the Department(s). Scrolling down the list, I found also "External" Scholarships and Fellowships, which are awarded to students going to any accredited institution. Some are for minorities, so read the fine print for sure.

I think personally it would be a good idea to make a Portfolio, online and portable, so that if you DO get an appointment to talk to professors or someone else in person or not about a Scholarship, you will be prepared and have something great to show. If you are good at more than one type of art, by all means have a few examples of each to show.

I don't have a big portfolio online. Just a few things. So, if you are like me, you will be doing this FIRST.

FAFSA time for 2015, finding scholarships at the Nontrad pages, and searching here at the blog.

Have you filled out your FAFSA?

It's time. I thought about it myself, but want to wait a bit IF I go for a #scholarship or #grant.

Here is a copy of the official website: http://fafsa.ed.gov/.

Remember, NEVER pay to do your FAFSA. There are some companies that help, for a fee. But you don't need to go that way.

Want to find more scholarships? Just use the search box at this blog. Put in the kind of scholarship you want. I have lists, and postings about many kinds of scholarships here.

Try the links at the left and right here too.

Or go to the Nontraditional Student Scholarship Search pages, and sign up for some great and free services to help you find them.

Here they are:

I have recently redone these pages. And talk about it here.

I am currently working on updating all of the other pages too. Be sure to refresh your browser when visiting here. Thanks!
