E-Internships are available via the VSFS - Virtual Student Foreign Service program

Here is an interesting opportunity on the U.S. Department of State website.

It is the Virtual Student Foreign Service (VSFS) Internship Program.

Interns work remotely with different U.S. government agencies on "extraordinarily interesting projects" with many agencies.

Note the application deadline is July 20th, 2013.

You can find out more here:
U.S. College Students Can Apply July 2-20, 2013 for Virtual Student Foreign Service eInternships.

I think when I was in school, this would have interested me a lot. I wonder if they accept nontraditional students who are not in school. Hmmmmm.... but probably not.

From Coshocton County, Ohio? Adult Scholarships are available for you, with a July deadline.

FYI:

The Coshocton Foundation has several scholarships available for nontraditional students who hail from their county (Coshocton County, Ohio).

Here is a blurb from the article I saw today:

"COSHOCTON — The Coshocton <Ohio> Foundation has announced its 2013 scholarships for adult, nontraditional students.
The foundation awards more than 100 scholarships each year, most of which are designated for graduating seniors. In recent years, more adults are returning to college and have expressed a need for financial help."

Good news: at least four of these scholarships don't depend on a particular major or minor.

Read more about these scholarships here:
Adult College Scholarship Available.

You need to apply now, because the deadline is July 29th.

I wish all communities would add more adult scholarships. They are much needed.

Research fellowships at the British Museum

Via the Petrie Museum Unofficial Page on Facebook. This could be a great opportunity for the right people.
Good opportunity for someone!

"Research fellowships at British Museum
The Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan is awarding one or two post-doctoral fellowships for 2014: two fellowships of three months, or one of six months. Fellows will be responsible for documenting and researching a specific area of the collection, defined thematically, typologically, or by provenance. This should focus on an area that forms part of their ongoing research. Our priorities are: Jewellery (New Kingdom and later), Bronze artefacts, Faience vessels and figurines.
Subjects of choice must be manageable within the three- or six-month period and well suited to candidates' range of expertise. Preference will be given to less-researched areas of the collection. Fellows will be expected to update relevant entries in the collection database as their research progresses, and results and synthesis of their work will need to be submitted as an academic article within a year after completing the fellowship. Fellowships are fixed term and full time for three or six continuous months. Precise dates can be agreed to suit the fellow's other commitments. Fellows will receive a stipend of £1,200 pcm, and are expected to make their own arrangements for visa, travel and accommodation. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in other departmental activities.

FYI: National University Rankings via U.S. News

Today I ran across this.

It is a list of the BEST U.S. schools. They have descriptions and more. This would be really fun to read, especially if you are considering attending one of these schools.

Here is their description of the page:

"Schools in the National Universities category, such as Columbia University and Stanford University, offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master's and Ph.D. programs. These colleges also are committed to producing groundbreaking research."

Another thing  - - if you missed out going to your favorite school, you can often take courses online now or for graduate school too.

This site directs you to their online magazine, College Compass - - which is a paid magazine, and costs $29.95 for a year of access.

They also have a free Paying for College page with access to some of their best articles.

Do you have a favorite school that might be on this Best of Colleges list?

Comment below and let us know.

And good luck on your scholarship search!

Scholarship advice, two great scholarship-seeking websites, and some advice - good luck!

Two Great Sites to Check, and some Scholarship Seeking Advice.

This week, check out these two great sites and blogs for your scholarship search. If you have already done your FAFSA, be sure to check your Fastweb recommendations.

#1: Fastweb. So many people recommend this site. Why? It is fast, and free. Just register here, and Fastweb can help you find scholarships. It's easy. Here is the site: http://www.fastweb.com/.

#2. FAFSA. This is the OFFICIAL government FAFSA page. It is also free. Don't click anywhere else to do your FAFSA.

Also, make sure you review all the deadlines for the scholarships you have already filled out or are waiting to fill out.

Organize all your applications.

Visit nearby colleges and schools and talk to an Advisor to find out if any NEW grants or scholarships have become available for the subject you want to study.

And don't give up hope. Even if it seems like an impossible quest, there ARE scholarships out there to be had. It's the people that keep on looking that are successful. They apply for a great many scholarships, in order to get one or two or even more.

Be that squeaky wheel. Keep on keeping on. And I hope you get the scholarship you want.

Have you been successful in finding a scholarship? Share your story as a comment. Thanks!

Excellent Artist Grants and Fellowships - an article via Blouin Art Info.

Face sketch by GlennCam on Flickr.

Here is an excellent link I got today via Facebook:

20 Top Artist Grants and Fellowships You Might Actually Be Able to Get - via Blouin Art Info, International Edition.

I have glanced at this, and noticed that a couple of these are for Photography, and one is for people who have "certifiably awesome ideas". That one sounds great!

Check the age limitations on these - they are all different. These are quality awards too. Are you Native American, African-American, Lesbian, comic book artist, or a filmmaker?

How about an architect, painter, sketch artist, or sculptor? These disciplines and more are covered here.

Good luck! (I may check these out too this time...)

A new scholarship for nontraditional students, from Destiny Solutions.

Destiny Solutions sent me a scholarship link today.

It is for the Mary Cone Barrie Scholarship Award. From the page:

"The Marry Cone Barrie Scholarship is a yearly program that was established to recognize the efforts of learners who are improving their lives through continuing education and workforce development. We understand how difficult it can be to embrace the concept of lifelong learning, to go back to school with a full time job and a family. We are proud that we can contribute even a little bit to help make life a little easier. "

This is a scholarship for nontraditional students. You can apply here.: Destiny Solutions: The Mary Cone Barrie Scholarship Award.

Are you thinking ahead? Fill out your FAFSA and get student loans AND grants.

I looked up FAFSA videos on YouTube and found the official one. It was made in 2012. I learned some things while watching it. For instance, you can fill out the official FAFSA form in both English and Spanish.

The FAFSA form still uses a PIN number, which it used to do. This is your personal ID number you use there.

I like the new "Online Chat" feature that the video tells about. You can now list up to 10 schools that you are interested in.

You can also automatically import your IRS information sometimes now too.

If the FAFSA offers a "save" function along the way, I suggest using it, so that you can retrieve your information in case of a computer glitch.

Here is the website too:
http://www.fafsa.gov.

They list http://www.studentaid.gov for a site to go to if you have questions about the FAFSA form.

Good luck on your scholarship search!

A little about Internships. They are great experience, and can sometimes lead to a job.

First off, Internships don't always lead to jobs.

But they do look great on a resume. And if they like you a lot, and have an opening, they can be a terrific way to get a job. Sometimes.

An internship can be a practice run on a job you think you might like. They are often unpaid, and offered for a limited time.

But you can do great work at one, and make a difference too.

Here are some great pages I found on finding an internship in a field you like or would like to learn more about.

The Fatomei/Dr. Torres List of Internships

Intern with Greenpeace

Finding Internships - at the About.com page

NYC Summer Internships 2013

The Fall 2013 White House Internship program

Smithsonian Internship Opportunities

Student Programs at the Department of State

The City of Seattle Internship Program

Internships Explained: from the Columbia University website

Internships at the UN

Reuters Journalism Internships

And if summer internships at a site are filled, jot these addresses down OR make your own list for next year. The sooner you apply for these, the better.

Knuckle down... and never give up on looking for that great scholarship or grant.

A thought for today:

Don't give up just because there are many applicants for scholarships.

You may think that all scholarships are already taken, and that only the genius applicants will get the nod.

It is not true.

Things like service, clubs, groups, specialized knowledge, entrepreneurship, background, residency, special skills, and many more things are taken into account when scholarships or grants are awarded.

You need to give a scholarship or grant search the seriousness and organization you give other important things, like looking for a job or doing research.

Just saying.

Here are some postings to help you in your scholarship search:
